PERSONAL GOAL

My goal is to become an expert in the field of electric propulsion leading European developments and steering them towards market needs, effectively contributing to help mankind make a further step towards space exploration.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Sept. 2016 - present
Spacecraft Propulsion System Engineer. Airbus Defence & Space, Stevenage (UK)
Graduate Development Programme – selected to be trained in both technical and soft skills to become one of the company’s future leaders. As part of Airbus Defence and Space Propulsion Design team I’ve covered multiple roles:

- BepiColombo Solar Electric Propulsion System (SEPS) Architect: as my main role, I’ve accomplished design authority tasks for the T6-based SEPS of BepiColombo, supporting the main architect in delivering one of the most ambitious EP systems
in history. My tasks included investigating thruster’s performance, running system analyses, writing specifications and test procedures and defining the system’s operations while interfacing with subcontractors and ESA.

- Electric Propulsion R&D Technical Lead: I’ve taken a leader role in multiple commercially sensitive R&D programs aimed at developing disruptive propulsion technologies involving multiple international entities under EU and internal funding.

- Electric Propulsion Specialist: using my know-how on propulsion I’ve supported several other projects, including the bid for the Phase A of the main LISA mission. Moreover, I’ve managed multiple subcontractors and research institution while
supporting Airbus’s management on propulsion-related strategy decisions.
Transversal skills training received: Project Management, Lean Yellow Belt (Business Methodology), Emotional Intelligence.

Apr. 2015 - Sept. 2016
Electric Propulsion R&D Engineer. SITAEL, Pisa (Italy).
First-hand designed, analysed, assembled and tested several electric propulsion devices, including both Engineering Models of standard thrusters and BreadBoard models of innovative concepts including:

- A zero-erosion high performance 5kW Hall Thruster (successfully tested with multiple propellants).

- The most extensively characterised European 20kW-class Hall Thruster.

- The world-first air-breathing EP engine that successfully demonstrated operation in a representative environment.

Oct. 2014 - Apr. 2015
Electric Propulsion Intern. SITAEL, Pisa (Italy).
Researched on my Master’s Thesis “Plasma behaviour in a Hall effect thruster and plasma-wall interactions”. The resulting innovative model of the plasma dynamic in non-standard HETs is used to-date in SITAEL in the design of new thruster concepts.

EDUCATION

Sept. 2012 - Apr. 2015
Master’s Degree in Space Engineering, Università di Pisa, Pisa (Italy).
Top graduate of my class. Grade of 110/110 summa cum laude. GPA: 31.4/30.

Sept. 2009 - Oct. 2012
Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Università di Pisa, Pisa (Italy).
Top graduate of my class. Grade of 110/110 summa cum laude. GPA: 31.6/30.

PUBLICATIONS

Inventor of 2 patents covering disruptive space propulsion technologies, currently in review phase.

Author of 12 published papers (first author of 6), and of another 4 papers currently in review phase. Some examples in the following:

KEY SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

I love what I do.
Electric propulsion expertise: with a strong experience at both component and system level for a broad range of EP technologies (HETs, GITs, electrospray, …) I always challenge the state-of-the-art and strive to improve and innovate over the existing technological landscape.
Critical thinker: I critically analyse problems and look for optimal solutions thinking out-of-the-box.
Languages:
- Italian: mother tongue.
English: professional knowledge (TOEFL 112/120).
French: basic.
Software: strong experience in Matlab, Ecosim and FEMM. Fundamental knowledge of Ansys, Catia V5 and Comsol.
Office – strong experience with Excel, Powerpoint and Word.
Leader & team player: I'm often convinced about the best path to follow and have a natural leader attitude. Having experience in both large scale space programmes and small team efforts, I value effective teamwork and understand its key role in achieving milestones.
